The George Coleman Scholarship
Sponsored by the New England Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (NEACRAO)

The New England Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers has established the George Coleman Scholarship. Three (3) one thousand dollar ($1,000) scholarships are awarded annually to three (3) high school graduates who will be enrolling in a NEACRAO member institution in September of 2008.

The recipients of this scholarship will be chosen from candidates who are recommended by New England secondary school guidance professionals.

BACKGROUND

In an effort to promote and reward academic excellence and the pursuit of a post-secondary degree, the New England Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers solicits from professional high school guidance personnel the names of and recommendations for a 2008 high school graduate who will be enrolling in a NEACRAO member institution in September of 2008 (list of member schools available in most guidance offices or on the NEACRAO website—www.neacrao.org).

Applications for this scholarship shall be made available to any student who meets the criteria. These applications may be secured from the high school guidance department or from the office of the immediate Past President of NEACRAO, who will serve as the Chair of the George Coleman Scholarship Committee.

The Committee, which is composed of the most recent five Past Presidents of NEACRAO, will communicate its decision before August 1st to the recipients of the scholarship and to all guidance professionals who made recommendations.

Guidance professionals should make recommendations for the one-time, first-year scholarship based on the following criteria:

1. The potential of the candidate to succeed in a post-secondary academic environment.
2. The high school academic record of the candidate. The applicant must have earned a high school grade point average of at least a 3.00 (based on a 4.0 system—or its otherwise equivalent).

PROCEDURES FOR APPLICATIONS

Scholarship applications must be filed by March 15th proceeding the academic year in which the scholarship will be awarded. The NEACRAO Scholarship Committee will review all scholarship applications that are post-marked by March 15th. In the event that no applications are made for the scholarship in a given year, the award set aside for that year shall be distributed in the following year.
