Movie The Philosopher Kings
In search of wisdom found in unlikely places, The Philosopher Kings takes us on a journey through the halls of the most prestigious colleges and universities in America to learn from the staff members who see it all and have been through it all: the custodians. This thought-provoking, feature-length documentary interweaves the untold stories of triumph and tragedy from the members of society who are often disregarded and ignored, and seeks out the kind of wisdom that gets you through the day and the lessons one learns from surviving hard times, lost loves, and shattered dreams.
From the producers of the multiple-award winning Flight from Death, The Philosopher Kings gives us the opportunity to learn from eight incredible individuals whom we would never have otherwise taken a moment out of our day to acknowledge.

Luncheon/Keynote Speaker: Myra Hindus--Developing our Cultural Intelligence: Navigating Difference in Today’s Complex World
This talk will focus on building our cultural intelligence: the ability to deal with and work with people who are different than us.  In higher education, more than ever, these challenges face staff, students and faculty on a daily basis.  What kind of tools and knowledge do we need to effectively navigate in a diverse, increasingly complex workplace and world?

How do we define diversity and how do these issues effect us in our everyday work?  How do we create a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone in our institutions and how does this impact both recruitment and retention?  How would you describe the culture in your institution regarding diversity and inclusion?

All of these questions will be raised, some answers posed, and a workshop immediately following will explore these issues, in more detail, in an interactive environment.

Event: Dinner and An Evening of A Capella
Join us for an evening of music featuring L’Shir, The Diversions, and University of Connecticut Conn-Men.  Enjoy your dinner as three fantastic a cappella groups perform and entertain.  This is a great place to connect with others, kick back and enjoy some great music.

L'Shir was established at The University of Hartford in the Spring of 2000 with assistance from the Hart- ford Hillel Foundation. Originally an all-Jewish a cappella group, L'Shir has evolved into one of many denominations. The group also stays true to their roots in continuation of the traditional performance of "Shalom Rav" a poignant arrangement written by one of their founding alumni, Benjamin Rauch, in response to the September 11 attacks.

The Diversions are an all-female A Cappella group at Mount Holyoke College. Founded in 2003, they perform a variety of contemporary songs. The Diversions regularly perform on campus and travel to other colleges as well.

The University of Connecticut Conn-Men characterized by individual vocal development, originality, musicality, and personal loyalty to the group. Because of their dedication to always being the best they can possibly be, the Conn-Men consistently leave audiences wanting more.

There will be a cash bar from 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm with the dinner starting at 6:30 pm.  The $25 cost includes dinner with a choice of New York strip steak, miso grilled salmon, organic Statler chicken breast, or a roasted vegetable tower as well as a great night of entertainment!
