Bates College, one of the nationŐs finest liberal arts colleges, seeks a dean of admission and financial aid. Reporting to newly-appointed president-elect Clayton Spencer and serving as a member of her senior staff, the successful candidate will be the first to assume this role at Bates and will join the college at a time of tremendous momentum and promise, partnering with a president, faculty, senior team and staff devoted to access and to the transforming power of liberal education.

 

The new dean, together with the staffs of the newly combined offices of admission and financial aid, will lead the collegeŐs efforts to recruit and enroll the most talented and diverse students to Bates, playing a critical role in shaping the future of the college. The dean will lead strategic direction, planning, coordination, execution and analysis for admission and student financial services. He or she will work with Bates senior leadership, using both strategy and vision to analyze and understand the competitive landscape of liberal arts education nationally and globally.

 

BatesŐ new dean of admission and financial aid will be an experienced admission and student aid professional with strong analytical skill and great talent and finesse as a strategist and leader. He or she will be a practiced and nuanced communicator with an ability to work effectively with all the collegeŐs many audiences. He or she will be familiar with both areas reporting to this post and have a proven record of achievement. An engaging, open and affirming personal style with an understanding of the essential relationship among diversity, inclusiveness and educational excellence is required. The ability to build bridges and work inclusively and productively with a wide variety of people and offices is essential.

Bates is located in Lewiston-Auburn, twin cities of about 60,000 people in the heart of Central Maine. The beautiful 109-acre campus is midway between the coast and the mountains and 140 miles northeast of Boston.
