NEACRAO Annual Meeting

President's Message

SPRING 2006 NEACRAO NEWSLETTER

It’s hard to believe that the spring semester is half over, and that many of us have started registering our students for the fall 2006 semester.

The Executive Council met in early March to start preparing for the annual meeting in November. We reviewed a great many session proposals and are on the way to developing another great program for the meeting in Newport. We are looking at some new topics, which the Board fines very interesting. These new sessions will, as always, help each one of us on our campuses.

The AACRAO annual meeting is being held in beautiful San Diego from April 17-20, 2006. I know that many of you will be there and I look forward to seeing you at the NEACRAO Reception on Wednesday, April 19, at 6:30 p.m.

This is a great time to be a member of NEACRAO. As with AACRAO, one of the themes we will be promoting this year is for all of our members to find their niche in NEACRAO. Our organization thrives on the work of volunteers. The Executive Council will look to the membership to continue its mission by seeking volunteers for committees and the Council. It’s your time to step forward—just do it! You’ll be glad you did. I know I am.

On behalf of the Executive Council, I look forward to seeing you in San Diego in April, and Newport in November.

VOLUNTEER—IT DOESN’T COST ANYTHING!

Donna Campbell
President, NEACRAO

Catch the Wave...

It’s time for the 92nd Annual Meeting of AACRAO, April 17 – 20 and Northeasterners ready for a little warm weather will appreciate the change of climate in San Diego, California. New this year, AACRAO has installed a schedule builder on their web site to help you plan your sessions before leaving the office and many session handouts are now available online at http://www.aacrao.org/sandiego/program.htm.

Attendees are sure to enjoy the opening session by Scott Adams, creator of the popular cartoon “Dilbert” which is published in over 2,000 papers in 65 countries. Another session that is not to be missed will take place on Thursday by Emmy Award winning journalist and best-selling author Bill Moyer. Moyer, whose documentaries explore the varied aspects of American life, will ask the question, “What Happened to the American Dream?” Other elements of the conference that attendees have come to expect are back, such as an Exhibit Hall with over 70 vendors, the CyberCafe by Oracle, the AACRAO Bookstore, the CollegeNet golf tournament, pre-meeting workshops, and of course hundreds of interesting and timely sessions.

An exciting addition to the conference this year, AACRAO will be sponsoring seven live “webinars” for those not able to attend the annual meeting in person. The webinars will range in topics from FERPA to IPEDS to Enrollment Management and Financial Aid. All that is needed is a PC with an Internet connection and a sound card and speakers. Participants can even participate in a Q & A session with the presenter. Visit http://webinar.aacrao.org/am06/ for more information and to register.

While in San Diego attendees can take one of the AACRAO tours of San Diego and the surrounding area, including Tijuana, Mexico. Animal lovers preferring to explore on their own can enjoy the world famous San Diego Zoo and see Shamu at Sea World. Balboa Park is also near the convention center and will be a highlight of any trip to San Diego. The famous park is home to over 85 cultural and recreational groups including fifteen museums, performing arts groups, as well as many award winning gardens. And for spectacular shopping visit the nearby Seaport Village and Gaslamp Quarter.

With so much going on no doubt there will be a lot to talk about so be sure to come to the NEACRAO reception, Wednesday, April 19, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the San Diego Marriott in the Columbia 2-3 and relax with your colleagues from New England.

See you in San Diego!!
